Toilet Repairs

A running toilet wastes more water than anything else in your home.

Call 010 500 1849

A continuously running toilet can waste in excess of two hundred litres a day. It is silent enough to ignore, cheap enough to keep postponing, and it will quietly add a meaningful amount to your municipal account every single month until it is fixed.

We repair inlet and outlet valves, replace failed flush mechanisms, reseat leaking pans, replace cracked cisterns and install new suites. Most repairs are completed in a single visit, and where a toilet is the wrong fit for the space or beyond economical repair we can supply and fit a replacement as part of wider bathroom plumbing work.

Immediate water saving

Fixing a running cistern typically pays for itself within one or two billing cycles.

Parts on the vehicle

Common valve and mechanism spares are carried, so most repairs are completed on the first call.

Leaks found properly

Water at the base of a pan can be a seal, a cracked pan or a waste connection. We identify which before quoting.

Neat replacements

Where a suite is replaced, tiling and finishes are protected and the installation is left clean and sealed.

How toilet repairs actually works

Cistern mechanisms are consumables. Inlet valves scale up and stop sealing, flush valves perish, and drop valves warp. On modern dual-flush units the whole mechanism is often a single cartridge and is replaced rather than repaired, which is quick and inexpensive. On older units, individual parts can still be sourced and swapped.

Weak flushing is more often a supply or blockage issue than a mechanism issue. Low water level in the cistern, a partially blocked rim channel scaled up over years, or a partial blockage in the soil pipe will each produce a flush that struggles. We test in that order, and if the soil line is implicated we move to blocked drain clearance.

Water appearing at the base of a pan needs proper diagnosis. A failed wax or rubber connector seal is straightforward. A hairline crack in the pan is not repairable and the unit must be replaced. Moisture from condensation in a humid bathroom is a ventilation problem and no amount of plumbing will fix it. Getting the diagnosis right is what stops you paying for the same job twice.

Common issues we see

  • Cistern refilling continuously or intermittently
  • Handle or button that does not return properly
  • Weak or incomplete flush
  • Water seeping from the base of the pan
  • Cracked cistern or pan
  • Loose or rocking toilet on the floor
  • Blocked toilet that keeps recurring

When to call us immediately

  • You can hear the cistern refilling when nobody has flushed
  • Water is pooling around the base of the toilet
  • Flushing requires holding the handle down
  • The toilet rocks when sat on
  • Your water bill has risen and toilets are the suspect

Our process

What happens after you call

  1. 1

    Test and dye check

A simple dye test confirms whether the cistern is leaking into the pan, which is the most common hidden waste.

  2. 2

    Component diagnosis

Inlet, outlet, seals and supply pressure are checked individually so the right part is replaced.

  3. 3

    Repair or replace

Mechanism repair, pan reseat or full suite replacement, quoted before work begins.

  4. 4

    Verify and clean

The toilet is cycle-tested, checked for leaks and the area is cleaned before handover.

Frequently asked questions

How much water does a running toilet waste?

Between 100 and 400 litres a day depending on the fault. Over a month that is a significant and entirely avoidable addition to your account.

Can you repair an old or discontinued toilet?

Usually. Generic mechanisms fit most older cisterns. Where a pan or cistern is cracked, replacement is the only safe option.

Why does my toilet block repeatedly?

Recurring blockages usually indicate a problem downstream rather than in the pan — insufficient fall, roots or a partial obstruction in the soil line. A camera survey settles it.

Can you replace a toilet without retiling?

Often yes, if the new pan footprint and waste position match. We check dimensions before ordering so there are no surprises.

Do you supply the toilet or must I buy it?

Either. We can supply from trade suppliers at competitive pricing, or fit a unit you have already bought.
