How burst pipe repair actually works
Bursts in Gauteng have three dominant causes. Cold snaps are the obvious one: exposed external pipework and geyser feed lines on roofs freeze overnight, expand and split, then release the moment the sun thaws them. High municipal pressure is the second, and it is badly underestimated — many northern suburbs receive water well above what domestic fittings are designed for, and a pressure-reducing valve is a cheap intervention against an expensive failure.
The third is age. Galvanised steel installed decades ago corrodes from the inside out, narrowing the bore and thinning the wall until it fails without warning. Once one section goes, the rest of that circuit is usually close behind. Where we find advanced corrosion we will say so plainly and quote a phased re-pipe rather than take your money for repeated call-outs to the same house.
After any burst, we pressure-test the repaired circuit before leaving, check that no debris has been driven into aerators or mixer cartridges, and inspect the surrounding area for secondary damage. If the water has reached a ceiling, we will tell you honestly whether it needs to come down.
