Preventative Plumbing Maintenance
Every emergency we attend gave warning signs first.
Call 010 500 1849Almost every plumbing emergency we attend was preventable, and the warning signs were usually visible for months. A geyser that had been kettling. A drain that had been clearing slowly since autumn. Pressure that had been too high for years. A drip that was dismissed as trivial.
A preventative maintenance visit is a structured annual inspection of everything that fails: geyser and safety valves, incoming and internal pressure, visible pipework and fittings, drains and gullies, and the fixtures that waste the most water. It costs a fraction of a single emergency call-out and it is the reason our maintenance clients rarely need one.
Fewer emergencies
Failing components are replaced on a scheduled visit instead of at 11pm through your ceiling.
Lower water bills
Running toilets, dripping taps and irrigation losses are found and quantified at each inspection.
Extended equipment life
Correct pressure and serviced valves add years to geysers, mixers and appliances.
Documented history
A maintained record supports insurance claims and adds credibility at resale.
How preventative plumbing maintenance actually works
The inspection follows the same checklist on every property so nothing is skipped. We start at the meter with a leak test and a pressure reading. We inspect the geyser, its safety valve, vacuum breakers, drip tray and overflow, and check the temperature setting. We test every toilet with a dye check, examine visible pipework and fittings for early corrosion or weeping, and flow-test fixtures for restriction.
Drains are checked for flow and, on properties with mature trees or a blockage history, surveyed on camera every second or third year. Irrigation, pool top-up and outdoor taps are inspected too, since they are the most commonly overlooked source of unexplained consumption on large properties.
You receive a written report grading each item green, amber or red, with photographs and costed recommendations. Nothing is done without your approval. Most homeowners handle the red items immediately, budget the amber ones over the year, and skip the rest — which is exactly how it should work. For businesses and complexes the same discipline is delivered under our commercial plumbing contracts.
Common issues we see
- Geysers nearing end of life without any obvious warning
- Pressure running above the rating of installed fittings
- Silent toilet leaks wasting water continuously
- Early corrosion at fittings not yet leaking
- Drains slowly narrowing with fat and root growth
- Irrigation losses hidden in the monthly account

Frequently asked questions
How often should a home be inspected?
Annually for most properties. Homes over thirty years old, or with large gardens, irrigation and pools, benefit from every six months.
What does a maintenance inspection include?
Meter leak test, pressure readings, geyser and safety valve check, toilet dye tests, fixture flow tests, visible pipework inspection and drain flow checks, with a written graded report.
Is maintenance worth it if my plumbing is fine?
That is precisely when it is worth most. The purpose is to find the fault before it becomes an emergency, not to confirm one you already have.
Do you offer plans for landlords?
Yes, including multi-property scheduling and reporting sent directly to owners or managing agents.
Does maintenance help with insurance?
A documented maintenance history makes claims considerably easier to substantiate, particularly around geyser and water damage claims.
